AIAC SPONSORS PROGRAM FEATURING MICHAEL DOUGLAS, DAME JANE GOODALL, AND VERIZON CHAIRMAN HANS VESTBERG AT THE EXPLORERS CLUB
For Immediate Release
September 23, 2025 – New York, NY – American Industrial Acquisition Corporation (AIAC) sponsored the global book launch of Hope for Life on Our Planet: Inspiration for Seven Generations on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at The Explorers Club in New York City, followed by a private dinner honoring Academy Award-winning actor and UN Messenger of Peace Michael Douglas at the historic Lotos Club. The event coincided with the 80th UN General Assembly and 16th annual Climate Week.
The book launch, held at the The Cark Room of the Explorers Club, was filled to capacity and brought together foreign dignitaries, business and finance leaders, cultural icons, scientific pioneers, and noted academics. The program featured tributes from global conservation icon Dame Jane Goodall and Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg, and a stunning surprise appearance via live video link from Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate Narges Mohammadi speaking from Tehran.
Book editor and co-author Dr. Osvald Bjelland, Founder and Chairman of the Origination Foundation, shared the story of the book's genesis and the mission of over 60 notable contributing authors across interdisciplinary sectors, including the late Pope Francis, Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, World Bank President Ajay Bangar, Nobel Laureate and former South African President F. W. de Klerk, and noted Swedish industrialist Hendrik Hendriksson.
Dr. Bjelland described his efforts through former Chair of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee Berit Reiss-Andersen to secure an opening essay for the book from Iran's Nobel Peace Laureate Narges Mohammadi—then under solitary confinement in Iran's Evin prison.
Dame Jane Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the global youth movement Roots and Shoots, emphasized the timeliness of the publication: "It is more important than ever that we have hope. The book, Hope for Life on Our Planet, could not come at a more important time."
Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg spoke to hope as a leadership imperative: "The role of a leader is to be a hopeful person who empowers others to have the same feeling. Hope can energize us to do difficult and valuable work—and to believe we can change the world through hard work—and smart work. Technology plays a key role to power and empower people to connect to each other and prosper around the world."
Dr. Osvald Bjelland, book editor and Origination Foundation Chairman, stated: "We see a tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and commitment by a growing number of young people around the world. They do not intend to give up on their own future. We also see global leaders with a relentless focus on technologies, business and financial modelling, and partnerships which will help us restore, regenerate, and drive progress for life on our planet."
Iranian Nobel Peace Laureate Narges Mohammadi, delivered a powerful message: "No wall can imprison hope, and no power can destroy our belief in freedom and justice. In prison, I learned that hope is not only a feeling, it is a force. My message is simple but urgent: the world is still worth believing in. Hope is the strongest weapon we have. Let us build a world worthy of our children."
A distinguished panel of co-authors engaged in dialogue moderated by Bloomberg News' Lyndsay Howard. The panel featured Vidar Helgesen, former Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation and Norway's former Minister of Environment and Executive Director of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO; Jonathan Granoff, UN Representative for the Summit of Nobel Laureates; and Dr. Robert Thurman, Columbia University Professor Emeritus of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies.
Following the panel discussion, Michael Douglas delivered a stirring address on leadership and human values, closing the event with a powerful message on the critical role of hopeful leadership in empowering global action during these challenging times.
That evening, AIAC Chairman L. M. Levie hosted a formal reception and dinner in tribute to Michael Douglas, Osvald Bjelland, and Lyndsay Howard at the historic Lotos Club.
Mr. Levie stated: "We were honored to sponsor the global launch of a monumental book that brings together Nobel Peace Prize laureates, world religious leaders, Fortune 500 CEOs, renowned scientists, and conservation pioneers united by a common uplifting message: hope, technology and innovation as a strategy for addressing our planet's most pressing challenges. The program today embodied the collaborative spirit necessary to address our present challenges while maintaining hope for future generations."
AIAC and its affiliates, Bradford Space, Champlain Cable, SuperAlloy Manufacturing, and Canadian Kraft Paper Industries are Partners of The Explorers Club, and sponsors for Ocean Week, Climate Week, the Explorers Club Annual Dinner, and other special events. In addition to his role as Trustee of the Explorers Club, Mr. Levie is a Member of its Legacy Society and serves as its Poet Laureate. He is a Member of the Circle of Hope of the Jane Goodall Institute.

About Dame Jane Goodall
Dame Jane Goodall, DBE, is the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees and a pioneering ethologist, conservationist, and humanitarian. Born April 3, 1934, in London, England, Goodall's groundbreaking research on wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania, revolutionized our understanding of primate behavior and challenged long-held beliefs about what distinguishes humans from other animals.
In 1960, at the age of 26, Goodall began her landmark study of chimpanzees in what is now Tanzania. Her observations—including the discovery that chimpanzees make and use tools, have complex social relationships, and display emotions similar to humans—fundamentally changed the field of primatology. She earned her PhD in ethology from Cambridge University in 1965, one of very few people to be admitted to a Cambridge PhD program without having first earned a bachelor's degree.
In 1977, Goodall founded the Jane Goodall Institute, which continues her research and conservation work while promoting community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa. In 1991, she founded Roots & Shoots, a global youth-led community action program now active in over 60 countries, empowering young people to become compassionate leaders and make a positive impact in their communities.
Goodall has received numerous honors for her scientific and humanitarian work, including being named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, receiving the French Legion of Honor, the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Life Science, the National Geographic Society's Hubbard Medal, and over 100 honorary degrees from universities worldwide. She serves as a UN Messenger of Peace and has authored numerous books for adults and children.
Now in her 90s, Dame Jane spends approximately 300 days per year traveling the world, speaking about conservation, environmental sustainability, and the critical importance of hope in addressing the challenges facing our planet. Her message of hope, grounded in decades of scientific observation and conservation work, continues to inspire millions around the globe.

Vidar Helgesen is Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) and Assistant Director-General of UNESCO. Born November 21, 1968, in Norway, Helgesen is an international lawyer, diplomat, and former government minister who has dedicated his career to environmental sustainability, ocean conservation, and democratic governance.

The IOC-UNESCO promotes international cooperation in marine sciences to improve management of the ocean, coasts, and marine resources across its 150 member states.
Upon assuming leadership of IOC-UNESCO, Helgesen articulated his vision for the organization: "At a moment when the ocean has never been so high on the global agenda, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO has a unique mandate that combines an iron-clad commitment to improving our knowledge of the ocean with a vision for a sustainably managed ocean and an ocean literate society." This philosophy reflects his belief in the interconnection between scientific knowledge, policy action, and sustainable development.
Prior to joining UNESCO, Helgesen served as Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation in Sweden from 2021 to 2024, overseeing the organization's global activities and successfully launching a new phase of the Nobel Center project. His tenure at the Nobel Foundation demonstrated his ability to lead prestigious international institutions while advancing their core missions and values.
Before his role at the Nobel Foundation, Helgesen was Norway's Special Representative for the Ocean from 2017 to 2020, a position in which he initiated and led the work of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. His work as environment minister earned him recognition as a pragmatic yet ambitious advocate for environmental protection and sustainable development.
From 2013 to 2015, Helgesen served as Norway's first Minister of European Affairs, a newly created ministerial post in Prime Minister Erna Solberg's Cabinet following the Conservative Party's victory. He concurrently served as Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister during this period. In his role as Minister of European Affairs, he presented the government's strategy to maintain Norway's visibility and influence within the European Union while protecting Norwegian interests. His diplomatic skills and understanding of European politics proved invaluable in navigating Norway's complex relationship with the EU.
Earlier in his career, Helgesen was Deputy Minister (State Secretary) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2001 to 2005, where he gained deep experience in international diplomacy and foreign policy. From 2005 to 2013, he served as Secretary-General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), an intergovernmental organization based in Stockholm that supports democratic institutions and processes worldwide. In this role, he led efforts to strengthen democracy in developing and transitional countries, working with governments, civil society organizations, and international partners across the globe.
An international lawyer by training, Helgesen earned his law degree from the University of Oslo. His legal education provided the foundation for his diplomatic career and his ability to navigate complex international negotiations and multilateral organizations. Throughout his career, he has combined legal expertise with diplomatic skill to advance environmental protection, ocean conservation, democratic governance, and international cooperation on the global stage.
Helgesen's leadership style is characterized by a commitment to evidence-based policymaking, multilateral cooperation, and long-term thinking. He has consistently emphasized the need for integrated approaches to global challenges, recognizing that ocean health, climate stability, democratic governance, and sustainable development are all interconnected. His experience spans the public sector, international organizations, and the nonprofit foundation world, giving him a unique perspective on how different actors can collaborate to achieve common goals.
As Executive Secretary of IOC-UNESCO, Helgesen oversees flagship events and initiatives that shape the global ocean agenda. Under his leadership, the organization has coordinated major convenings including the Ocean Decade Conference and works closely with the UN Ocean Conference to advance marine science and ocean sustainability.
