IPL Global has bought West Yorkshire reprocessor Bright Green Plastics for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition was made from US investment firm AIAC, which bought Bright Green Plastics in 2019.

Plastic product manufacturer IPL Global's UK operations include bin manufacturing, following the buyout of MGB/Straight.

Bright Green Plastics began in 1992 as a subsidiary of the Linpac Group. It was given its current name by AIAC. In 2020, it announced £750,000 investment in a plastics sorting plant.

In May it was granted a £6m funding facility from Bibby Financial Services to help it expand into Europe.

Bright Green Plastics’ West Yorkshire facility recycles around 40,000 tonnes a year of plastic waste and has around 130 employees.

IPL said it will invest in equipment and “innovative projects” to increase recycling capacity, and that the current management team would remain in place.

Ian Farquhar, IPL Global UK managing director, said: “Our shared values, coupled with impressive breakthroughs in the development of recycled polymer formulas for a wide variety of applications, means that together we can offer sustainable solutions the market is looking for."

Steve Spencer, Bright Green Plastics general manager (pictured), said: “This acquisition will provide the global assistance to accelerate significant technical developments, ensuring as much recycled plastic as possible is ploughed back into the manufacturing cycle, while lessening reliance on virgin plastic.”
