AIAC TO SPONSOR THE 2026 SHACKLETON MARITIME GALA BALL: A CELEBRATION OF LEADERSHIP, RESILIENCE, AND MARITIME LEGACY
For Immediate Release
Dún Laoghaire, Ireland – May 16, 2026 – American Industrial Acquisition Corporation (AIAC) is proud to serve as a principal sponsor of the 2026 Shackleton Maritime Gala Ball, the flagship annual fundraising event of the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation, to be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the historic Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire, just outside Dublin. This prestigious black-tie celebration of the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton will gather business leaders, philanthropists, explorers, and supporters from across Ireland and around the world for an evening of elegance, inspiration, and impact, set against the historic backdrop of Ireland’s maritime heritage.
AIAC joins Avara Pharmaceuticals as a leading corporate sponsor of the gala, with L. M. Levie, Chairman of AIAC and Trustee and Poet Laureate of The Explorers Club, serving as a personal patron of the event. The 2026 gala holds particular significance as it coincides with the official launch of the “Spirit of Shackleton,” a 70-foot ocean-going yacht commissioned by the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation to serve as a “living classroom” for ocean science, maritime education, and youth leadership.
The Evening’s Programme
Hosted by the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation, the evening will commence with a champagne reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a black-tie gala dinner, live entertainment, and a charity auction featuring rare maritime memorabilia, expedition experiences, and exceptional one-of-a-kind opportunities. The evening will conclude with an awards presentation honoring leaders in maritime heritage, exploration, and youth development.
Proceeds from the gala will fund the Foundation’s youth leadership programmes, maritime training initiatives, and ocean science education — carrying forward the values of endurance, courage, and humanitarian leadership embodied by Shackleton himself to a new generation of young Irish men and women, and to young people from around the world.
A Distinguished Patron
The President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, the tenth President of Ireland and the third woman ever to hold the office, is anticipated to participate in the official launch programme of the “Spirit of Shackleton” vessel during the same week, in keeping with the gala’s themes of national maritime heritage and global leadership. Inaugurated on November 11, 2025, President Connolly has spoken extensively of her commitment to peace, climate stewardship, and the empowerment of young people — values that align directly with the mission of the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation.
The Spirit of Shackleton: A Living Classroom
The “Spirit of Shackleton,” a 70-foot ocean-going yacht designed for blue-water research, training, and youth leadership voyages, represents the Foundation’s most ambitious project to date. Once commissioned, the vessel will host expeditions, school programmes, and scientific research voyages, carrying forward Shackleton’s legacy of leadership rooted in care for others, courage to adapt and innovate, and optimism that inspires action. The vessel will also serve as a floating ambassador for Ireland’s maritime tradition, advancing ocean literacy and exploration around the world.
The launch represents the culmination of years of planning by the Foundation, supported by sponsors including AIAC and Avara Pharmaceuticals, and complements the Foundation’s broader mission to inspire future generations through education, maritime engagement, scientific exploration, and youth development.
A Tribute to Ernest Shackleton
A particular highlight of the evening will be the featured presentation of “A Tribute to Ernest Shackleton,” an original poetic and musical work composed by L. M. Levie, Chairman of AIAC and Trustee and Poet Laureate of The Explorers Club. The piece honors Shackleton’s extraordinary leadership, his unwavering devotion to the safety and well-being of his crew, and the indomitable spirit that has made him one of the most enduring symbols of courage and humanity in the modern age. Mr. Levie’s tribute joins his orchestrated musical tributes to Jane Goodall, Apollo 13 Commander Jim Lovell, Captain Fred McLaren, Albert I of Monaco, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden, Hamish Harding, and to Dr. Sylvia Earle — the latter recited by Mr. Levie at the United Nations during Oceans Week 2025.
The lyrics and accompanying orchestrated musical work are found below:
L. M. Levie, Chairman of American Industrial Acquisition Corporation and Trustee and Poet Laureate of The Explorers Club, issued the following statement:
“It is a profound honor for AIAC and for me personally to support the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation in celebrating Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of history’s most extraordinary leaders and among the most celebrated and admired members of The Explorers Club. Shackleton’s greatest achievement was not the conquest of any geographic objective, but the safe return of every man under his command in the face of unimaginable adversity. In an age that too often confuses ambition with achievement, his story reminds us that the highest measure of leadership is the well-being of those entrusted to our care.
The launch of the ‘Spirit of Shackleton’ is a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy. As a living classroom upon the sea, this vessel will carry his values — endurance, humanity, courage, and optimism — to a new generation of young Irishmen and Irishwomen, and to young people from around the world. To sail beneath canvas, to read the stars, to navigate the open ocean, and to learn that one’s own welfare is bound up with that of one’s shipmates: these are lessons no classroom on land can fully impart. It is in this same spirit that I have offered a poetic and musical tribute to Sir Ernest, to be presented during the evening — for poetry, like the sea itself, speaks to the depths of the human soul, and the great explorers deserve to be remembered in verse as well as in deed.
AIAC is proud to stand with the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation, with our fellow sponsor Avara Pharmaceuticals, and with all those who recognize that the cultivation of leadership in the young is among the most vital expeditions of our time. We are deeply grateful to the Foundation’s leadership and to the people of Dún Laoghaire and Dublin for hosting an evening that honors a son of Ireland whose example continues to inspire the world. We extend our particular admiration to President Catherine Connolly, the tenth President of Ireland, whose distinguished commitment to peace, to climate stewardship, and to the empowerment of young people aligns so beautifully with the values of this Foundation and with the very legacy of Sir Ernest himself; her anticipated participation in the launch programme of the “Spirit of Shackleton” lends the occasion a grace and dignity for which we are most deeply honored.”

About Sir Ernest Shackleton
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874–1922) was an Anglo-Irish polar explorer who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic, including the legendary Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914–1917 aboard the ship Endurance. When Endurance was crushed by pack ice in the Weddell Sea, Shackleton led his crew through nearly two years of survival on ice floes, in lifeboats, and on the desolate shores of Elephant Island, ultimately bringing every member of his expedition home alive in one of the greatest feats of leadership in human history. Born in County Kildare, Ireland, Shackleton remains an enduring symbol of resilience, humanitarian leadership, and the indomitable spirit of exploration.
